the Happy, part II

Happiness is a tricky bitch, elusive and complicated and veiled at times. And it’s easy to get stuck in a state of discontentment, unaware of exactly why we are so unhappy, and unable to escape the sadness we so frequently encounter.

This has been my life on far too many occasions, weighed down by a sorrow I’ve struggled to even define, with a source I can’t quite identify. I’ve been frustrated and exhausted and disheartened, discouraged by my inability to JUST BE HAPPY DAMMIT.

But over the past few weeks, my day-to-day experience has felt decidedly different. I’ve been sincerely and consistently happy. In spite of long work days and bureaucratic bullshit and feeling physically unwell too often.

I’m lucky. Things changed without my permission. Things I might never have had the audacity to change myself. And I refuse to ever enable my unhappiness again.

I also promise more alcohol-infused posts in the future, in the name of hilarity and of yum. (Because, the whiskey, it is delicious.)
