knock knock
I like to think of my life as a comedy, to find the humor in the everyday aspects of being me, to laugh as often and ostentatiously as possible at myself. Finding the Funny is my most effective means of survival, saving me from embarrassment, insanity, and emotional implosion, keeping me (just barely) on the composed side of crazy.
But yesterday felt like a joke that’s not funny, or an ill-advised pun, more confusing and offensive than actually amusing. Or, maybe I just missed the point (though, oddly—and comfortingly—enough, no one else was laughing either).
Fortunately, the payoff came today, when I realized the folly of yesterday’s all-too-serious self. Neglecting to note the humor in life as it happens is (apparently and) ironically comical. And that is perhaps the punch line I’ve been impatiently waiting to appreciate.
