open mouth, insert foot

Wednesday night, after indulging in a pair of mostly-gin-and-tonics, the infamously outspoken Saren made the following comment to a male friend of mine she’d met only moments before:

“So, Cayly tells me you want to take her out.”

Enter awkward silence and uncomfortably forced laughter.

My humiliation was compounded by the fact that I had, indeed, said the exact thing Saren was claiming I had. I tried to recover by putting the responsibility for my presumptuousness (though backed by his behavior) onto my sister, which proved a somewhat successful tactic for easing the tension.

The conversation commenced.

I’m sure I would have been bothered by Saren’s (embarrassing-for-me) bluntness, if not for her uncanny ability to appear innocent and endearing when not. That, and the way her talent for tactlessness landed me a lunch date for the weekend.
